‚double bass' at the Museum
This time, the series “Museumsklänge” puts the double bass in the spotlight.
The starting point is the painting “Distinguished Musical Gathering” by Dirck Hals, created in 1635 in Haarlem, Netherlands. In it, the bass—developed in the 16th century as the lowest-pitched string instrument—takes center stage. Very much in the spirit of legendary bassist Peter Hook: “Bass lines are the heart of so many iconic songs.”
As always with “Museumsklänge,” the instrument will of course be heard as well. Chihoon Choi will take on this part. The bassist from the city symphony orchestra will bring two of these iconic musical instruments to the museum.
As the first solo double bassist, the South Korean will perform examples from the musical repertoire centered on his instrument. Classical music...of course!
But also more modern pieces that have made music history with just a few striking notes. Quiz question: Which Queen song was their best-selling single?
Here’s a hint: dumm, dumm, dumm...dumm, dumm, dumm, dumm, dumm.
Admission to this event organized by the Aachen Museumsverin at the Suermondt-Ludwig-Museum is free. Donations for future “Museumsklänge” events are welcome.
Following the “Double Bass Show,” the association will provide non-members with free admission to the museum.
