In the summer of 2023, the Fotografie-Festival of the StädteRegion Aachen will take place for the second time.
As one of the 20 or so planned stops, we will be showing works by Berlin-based photographer Robert Lebeck from August 15 to September 9, selected by his wife and festival curator Cordula Lebeck.
Born in Berlin in 1929, Robert Lebeck initially studied ethnology in Zurich and New York. There, with the help of major magazines such as Life, Time and The New Yorker, he discovered photography for himself and worked from 1952 as a photo reporter for Heidelberg newspapers, later for illustrated magazines such as Revue, Kristall and Stern. From 1977 to 1978, Lebeck was editor-in-chief of GEO magazine. In 1991 Lebeck received the Dr. Erich Salomon Award of the DGPH, in 2002 the Annual Infinity Award of the International Center of Photography, New York, and in 2007 the Henry Nannen Award. His work was shown in numerous exhibitions and published in photography books. Robert Lebeck died in Berlin in 2014.
In addition to his internationally acclaimed political and social reports such as "Africa in the Year Zero" (1960 for Kristall), Lebeck portrayed countless writers, visual artists, musicians and actors throughout his career.
We are pleased to offer you some of these outstanding portraits of international legends such as Alfred Hitchcock, Andy Warhol or Romy Schneider, among others, in our sales exhibition and look forward to your visit.
